Portsmouth
but will be completely understanding about your fear of “getting it wrong”,
and at the same time give you just the right amount
of driving lessons you need?
The Answer To This Question Is Most Definitely, “YES!”…And If you Want To PASS Your Test With Ease And Be The Envy Of All Your Friends, Then This Is An Extremely Important Letter For You To Read…
Hi!
I have some important questions for you. Think carefully as you answer…
- When you think about taking driving lessons, do you feel a little scared at what “might” happen when you’re behind the wheel?
- Do you imagine various scenarios that involve you crashing that “big scary machine” called a car, and hurting someone else in the process?
- Have your friends told you about stalling? Does it sound like the WORST thing that could EVER happen to you?
- Do you think about the HORROR of stalling on a big roundabout during a driving lesson and having other people beeping their horns at you?
- Do you find it difficult to imagine yourself actually in control of a car AT ALL, let alone whilst reversing around a corner?
- Are you afraid of EMBARRASSING yourself in front of your driving instructor and everyone else on the road?
- Are your friends all passing their tests, and are you scared of being “left behind” or not being as good as them?
- Are you scared of “being rubbish” like some of those people you see on these driving school TV programs that have taken their driving test so many times that it looks like they’ll never pass?
- Does the thought of driving round a busy Chichester or Portsmouth roundabout fill you with an irrational FEAR?
If you answered “YES” to any of those questions, then I have some important news for you…
The news is that you’re NOT alone.
In fact, that list of questions was created by teaching literally thousands of people to learn to drive in and around Portsmouth, and finding out exactly what worried them.

Is There Any Hope?
Absolutely!
It doesn’t have to be that way for you this time. There IS hope, and it’s NOT your fault that you’re nervous.
The other great bit of news is that we, as driving instructors, see nervous people all the time. We’re completely used to dealing with all types of people, from all walks of life, with all kinds of fears around driving.
We’re experts at helping you through the tough times, especially your first few lessons.
We’ve been giving driving lessons in and around Portsmouth for years!
In fact, most people actually start to have fun on their lessons once they settle in and realise all those nightmare scenarios I talked about at the start of this letter won’t even happen.
What I’ve discovered is that fear about taking driving lessons comes from not knowing how to choose a driving instructor that’s right for you, which can make you feel like you’re taking a leap into the unknown.
No wonder you’re nervous…I would be too, with those kinds of odds!
What I’ve also discovered is that there are 5 simple things you MUST know about, that will help you enjoy your first lesson and not feel so nervous.
By taking these 5 simple steps, which include 2 ways to ABSOLUTELY know the instructor you’ve chosen is right for you, you’ll feel A LOT more comfortable going into your lessons also get your driving off to a flying start!
Here they are:
1. Did you ever consider that you could actually “try out” a couple of different instructors
in the Portsmouth area, and then choose who you feel is the best fit?
This may well be news to you, but a good instructor won’t mind if you just have one lesson to see if you enjoy it.
We all have different personalities; we get on well with some of our friends, and even better with others. The same is true with driving instructors. You’ll be working in a partnership on your lessons, so it’s important you get on really well.
Chances are that the first instructor you get will be a great fit for you - we’re really very friendly. But, should you decide to come to us and say, “I’d like to just have one lesson and see how I get on with my instructor” we’ll be happy to help.
Just imagine, for a second, how that takes the pressure off getting it right first time, knowing that we won’t take offence…
You don’t have to explain anything to anyone and you’re free to try another instructor within the same driving school, or a different one altogether, it’s entirely up to you!

2. Do You Know How To Tell The Difference Between A Fully-Qualified Driving Instructor And A Trainee?
A fully-qualified driving instructor has a green instructor's badge in their windscreen; a trainee has a pink badge displayed.
What’s the difference? Well, both are legally allowed to teach you, but a trainee has yet to pass the final and most demanding part of the instructors’ exam.
That means the green badge instructor is usually more experienced and better qualified to look after to you. He or she has probably been doing the job for years. There’s very little, in terms of driving they haven’t seen!
All 1st Castle instructors in Portsmouth are fully-qualified ADIs (Approved Driving Instructors).
Does that make you a little bit happier and LESS scared? Knowing that they can help you through ANY problem that comes up.
3. Your Instructor Will Be Only Too Pleased To Explain To You What Will Happen On Your First Lesson, So Just Ask!
Another common reason for nervousness is a fear of the unknown.
As I mentioned earlier, taking your first lesson without knowing the driving instructor or what the driving lesson will be like is like taking a leap into the unknown. By asking questions and communicating with your instructor right from the start you’ll feel very well informed and, as a result, a little bit calmer.
Any driving instructor worth their salt will be only too pleased to answer your questions and spend time keeping you informed about the next stage.

4. Spend Less Time As A Beginner By Using A Notepad
Generally speaking, for the first 5 to 15 hours of your driving lessons you’re considered a beginner. This time can be the most nerve-wracking for you because there’s so much information to take in and remember (and worry about getting right).
The sooner you can get out of this “beginners’ zone” the better.
Using a notepad to take notes is a sure way to know you’ve got all the information learnt on your driving lessons recorded as a reference. It frees the mind up to concentrate on further learning if you don’t have lots of unanswered questions spinning around, cluttering everything up.
Your driving instructor will be ecstatic if you bring a notebook your lessons as it shows them you’re ready to learn and therefore will save you (and them) time going over stuff that’s already been covered, and ultimately save you MONEY!
